Acoustics that are welcoming, bright colors, smiles, and an organized classroom. What do these things have in common? They are just a few of the components that help create a welcoming environment to allow student success. When students feel safe and secure, they are much more apt to succeed academically.
One of the most important things related to the environment that will help a student achieve success is through the appearance and dress code of the instructors. If an instructor shows that they care about themselves through grooming and dressing for success, their character will have a positive effect on the students in their classroom. When a suit and tie are worn by a male, the students will behave positively. A woman wearing dress slacks and a lovely blouse will gain respect like none before. Dressing for success is a straightforward way for an instructor to set a positive example for students. This shows they care about themselves and want to be respected as an instructor, not as a classmate.
When an instructor has all of their teaching supplies organized within the classroom, the environment is very pleasing to the eye. Organized supplies send the message to an organized instructor. Someone who takes the time to present their teaching supplies in an orderly fashion obviously cares about themselves and would like others to follow. An outstanding instructor will set examples through the environment they provide in their classroom.
Bright smiles and colors. Who would think these would be important for a student to learn? When students are surrounded in bright, vibrant colors their attitudes aim towards reaching for the stars and achieving to the highest of their abilities. Human beings tend to function at higher levels when the environments are bright and pleasing to the eye. A dingy, dirty environment will not push students to succeed. By having a welcoming environment through smiles and bright colors, attendance will not be an issue. School attendance can be extremely poor when the walls are dark and dreary.
By setting an example of dressing for success with a smile and brightly colored walls, students will be successful in this type of classroom. Just attending school can be difficult for some students to do and if the environment is unpleasant, the student will possibly drop out of school. A healthy, inviting environment will assure instructors that their students will achieve success. School is not always easy. But, if a student is willing to learn in an inviting environment the rewards will be great!Tags: attendance, classroom, environmental factors, students
